Azkaban was supposed by Harry Potter to be the most secure prison, but two men revealed how easy and simple it was to escape Dementor’s notice.
It is important to keep in mind the controversial statements that the creator of Harry Potter has made. CBR supports professionals in the industry who are working to improve the properties and wider world of Harry Potter. CBR’s coverage continues on Rowling.
Azkaban was considered to be one of the most secure prisons in Harry Potter. It could accommodate any wizard regardless of how powerful. However, its reputation may not be as good as wizards think. While Azkaban may have held powerful wizards; Harry Potter was only enrolled in Hogwarts for a few years, which saw the escape by Sirius Black.
Siris wasn’t even the first one to escape Azkaban. The second wizard, who was also in Azkaban, also escaped long before him. The “inescapable”, prison was very much escapable. It appears that the Dementors, who were charged with guarding prisoners, didn’t do their job very well.

How Sirius Black used his animal form to escape
As discussed in the Harry Potter book series, Azkaban protected the most dangerous wizard criminals in Britain. It was located in the middle of the North Sea on an island. It was built in the 15th century and has been operational since 1718. The prison used charms to keep away all Muggles. Azkaban used Dementors to guard its prison. They were a far more humane option than prison guards. The Dementors had a specific power that drained people of happiness and left them with only their worst memories. Most Azkaban prisoners fell into despair and were eventually buried in Azkaban. The Ministry of Magic outlawed Azkaban’s Dementor use in 1998. However, two other people managed to escape these creatures’ watchful eyes.
Sirius Black ended up being the only wizard to have escaped Azkaban without any help. Sirius was sent into Azkaban as a result of Bartemius Crouch Senior securing the sentences for several suspects from the First Wizarding War. This sentence locked many Death Eaters in prison so they couldn’t use their powers to escape justice. However, innocents were also sent to prison. Sirius is accused of killing Peter Pettigrew and 12 Muggles as well as betraying James Potter and serving Lord Voldemort. These accusations were false because Pettigrew is still alive and he was responsible for the killing of the Muggles as well as Voldemort’s help. This made Sirius’ escape from Azkaban plausible.
Fans learned in Harry Potter. James Potter was Sirius Black’s best friend, while Harry Potter was Sirius’ godfather. This made it crucial that he escaped Azkaban to aid the boy. Sirius was an unregistered Animagus which was a great help. These wizards can transform into animal forms, like Professor Minerva McGonagall, who was a registered Animagus. She could transform into a cat. Sirius can transform into a cat or dog. However, no one in Azkaban was aware of his talent. After 12 years spent in Azkaban, he saw a newspaper that showed Pettigrew, his Animagus form of a rat, and realized he had got to help Harry. Pettigrew transformed into his dog body and escaped from prison quickly without any Dementors realizing it. He was not the first person to escape Azkaban.

Sirius Wasn’t the First Wizard to Escape Azkaban
While Sirius’ escape from Azkaban appeared to be easy and quite shocking for Harry Potter’s public, he was not the first to escape. Barty Crouch Jr. managed to escape, which made his first escape from Azkaban so embarrassing for Wizarding World. This is because his parents helped him cover the escape. Barty was an accomplice in the Death Eaters’ plot and pledged his loyalty to Lord Voldemort during the First Wizarding War. However, when the time came, his father who led the Department of Magical Law Enforcement sentenced Barty to Azkaban. His son was killed by the torture of Aurors Alice and Frank Longbottom.
Crouch Sr. saw a different plan and did the unthinkable to save his son. His 19-year-old son was sentenced in Azkaban to life imprisonment and Crouch Sr. allowed him into the prison. It is here that the Dementors begin to take away any joy he has ever experienced in his life. His wife’s health began to decline one year later after the tragic events of their son. She was now in grave danger. Bartemius took his spouse to see their son because of his government status. Barty was not interested in this plan and she agreed that Barty would take her place. Crouch Sr. took his son to Azkaban with him, where he disguised himself as Barty and died there. Barty got infiltrated by Hogwarts by Voldemort using him for his purposes.
